FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Procurement and quality questions, answered the way a supplier questionnaire asks them.

Common Questions

If a question below is not covered, it can be answered directly โ€” see the contact page.

What standards is CMM calibration performed under?

Calibration is performed under ISO/IEC 17025:2017. Certificates are issued under the performing laboratory's accredited scope and state the reference standards and uncertainty used.

Can a CMM be calibrated on-site instead of shipped out?

Bridge and gantry machines are usually calibrated on-site because of their size. Portable arms and small gauging can often be sent to a laboratory instead.

What happens if a CMM fails calibration?

Where the machine falls outside tolerance, an as-found report documents the condition. Repair, adjustment or part retirement is then quoted separately before any further work.

What appears on a calibration certificate?

The certificate states the reference standards used, the reported measurement uncertainty, as-found and as-left data, and the date of measurement.

How often should a CMM be recalibrated?

Interval depends on use, environment and internal quality system requirements. A documented interval review suits most fleets better than one fixed default applied to every machine.

Can part programs be written during a calibration visit?

Program development is quoted and scheduled separately from calibration, since it depends on drawing review and validation against a known part.

What is not included in a standard calibration visit?

Mechanical repair, part cleaning, software installation and fixture alignment are not included. Each is scoped and quoted once a condition is identified.

Are ring and plug gauges calibrated along with a CMM order?

Gauges can be submitted alongside a CMM request and calibrated under the same shipment, with results reported on a separate certificate per gauge type.

What information should be included with a calibration request?

Instrument make, model, serial number, range and the last calibration date. Known faults or error codes should be listed so the request is scoped accurately.

Request Pricing and Lab Accreditation Documents

Is a loaner or backup gauge available during repair?

Loaner equipment is not stocked. Repair timelines are communicated at quotation so inspection coverage can be planned around the outage.
